Shahid Khan

Consultant Physician at St Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals

Dr Shahid Khan is a Consultant Physician at St Mary’s and Hammersmith Hospitals and a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London, having been appointed in 2007. He is a Consultant in Gastroenterology with Specialist Accreditation in Hepatology. He is also a Trainer in Endoscopy.

Background Dr Khan graduated from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals Medical School in 1994. He completed specialist training in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and General Medicine in 2007 in North-West London and in 2003 he was awarded a PhD from the University of London for studies in liver cancer. Dr Khan became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 2010.

International Profile Dr Khan has lectured on liver and gastrointestinal disease nationally and internationally at Hepatology and Gastroenterology conferences. He is the lead author on the National guidelines for biliary cancer and was on the European panel for the International guidelines. Dr Khan has also given several presentations and lectures on various aspects of liver and gastrointestinal disease at national and international conferences, including the British of Society Gastroenterology, British and European Associations for the Study of the Liver, the American Association for the Study of the Liver, the International Liver Cancer Association and the Royal Society of Medicine.

Research Dr Khan is the Academic Lead at Imperial College for Liver Cancer. He is also a Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London where he leads a research team investigating early biomarkers in liver disease and supervises several PhD students. His research areas include the epidemiology, aetiopathogenesis, metabolomic, proteomic and genomic analyses of liver cancer. He is recipient of several national research grants. Dr Khan has published over 50 articles in the international medical literature including original research articles, reviews and book chapters.

Rohini Sharma

Clinical Senior Lecturer, Imperial College London

Dr Rohini Sharma is dual accredited in both medical oncology and clinical pharmacology and is a consultant based at the Hammersmith Hospital.

She completed her medical training at the University of Adelaide, and undertook her specialist oncology training at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney and her clinical pharmacology training at Westmead Hospital, Sydney.

Rohini was awarded an NHMRC PhD Fellowship at the Westmead Millennium Institute, University of Sydney. She was awarded a HEFCE Clinical Senior Lecturer position in May 2010. Rohini's clinical interests are in gastrointestinal malignancies and early phase clinical trials. Her research interests are in PET imaging within the Comprehensive Cancer Imaging Center .

Liz Joy

Medical Director, Community Health, Health Promotion and Wellness, Food and Nutrition

Dr Joy is the Medical Director for the Community Health, Health Promotion and Wellness, Food and Nutrition programs at Intermountain Healthcare in Salt Lake City. In addition she practices Family Medicine and Sports Medicine at the Salt Lake Clinic LiVe Well Center. She is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Utah School of Medicine in the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine and the University of Utah College of Health Department of Nutrition & Integrative Physiology.

Dr. Joy is the Immediate Past President of both the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and the Female Athlete Triad Coalition. She held 2 terms of office on the Board of Trustees for the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine. She is on the Editorial Board for The Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine, and is Associate Editor for Current Sports Medicine Reports. She serves on the Exercise Is Medicine Steering Committee for the ACSM, and chairs the EIM Clinical Practice Committee. In addition, she chairs the Healthcare Workgroup for the National Physical Activity Plan. She developed and directed the Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at the University of Utah from 1998 until 2011. Her research and advocacy interests lie in the areas of physical activity assessment and promotion, the Female Athlete Triad, air quality and health, and diabetes prevention.

She has authored many journal articles and textbook chapters on a wide variety of topics in sports medicine. Her research interests lie in the areas of physical activity assessment and promotion, practice-based research in primary care, the Female Athlete Triad, and sports injury prevention.

Steven Blair

Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Faculty Affiliate, Prevention Research Center

Steven N. Blair, P.E.D., FACSM, is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the Arnold School of Public Health,
Departments of Exercise Science and Epidemiology/Biostatistics at the University of
South Carolina. 

Professor Blair is a past-president of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity, and the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education as well as co-Chair of the Exercise is Medicine Science Committee.

He has received awards from many professional associations, including a MERIT Award from the National Institutes of Health, an ACSM Honor Award, the Robert Levy Lecture Award, and the Population Research Prize from the American Heart Association.

Professor Blair is also one of the few individuals outside the U.S. Public Health Service to be awarded the U.S. Surgeon General's Medallion. His research focuses on the associations between lifestyle and health, with a specific emphasis on exercise, physical fitness, body composition, and chronic disease. He has published more than 450 papers and chapters in the scientific literature, and served as the senior scientific editor for the U.S. Surgeon General's Report on Physical Activity and Health.

Robert Leonard

Consultant Oncologist

Robert Leonard is a medical oncologist with a major interest in the management of breast cancer. He is a former Professor of Cancer Studies at Imperial College London and honorary consultant medical oncologist at Imperial College NHS Trust; The BUPA Cromwell Hospital, The London Clinic and the London Oncology Clinic. His academic roles have included 25 years in senior Academic and NHS administrative roles in London, Edinburgh and Swansea.

Professor Leonard originally trained and qualified at Charing Cross Hospital, where he was awarded the Clinical Gold Medal and six of the final year prizes. Research Fellowships at Oxford’s Radcliffe Infirmary and Harvard Medical School followed his post-graduate training.

Prior to his roles as Professor of Cancer Studies and Chief of Service for Medical Oncology at Imperial College, he was Professor of Medical Oncology at Swansea Medical School and Director of the South West Wales Cancer Institute.

He is a co-founder and is Medical Director for Maggies’ Cancer Caring Centres UK, and chairs the professional advisory board. Since 2009 he has been Chair of the Scientific Board for Breast Cancer Care UK. He set up and Chairs the International Anglo Celtic Collaborative Oncology Trials Group.

He is author/co-author of more than 350 peer reviewed original papers and reviews. He has been a senior advisor to Cancer Research UK and is lead investigator several previous and current UK clinical Trials. He also regularly acts as expert oncology witness for legal cases.

Anestis Iossifidis

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon , Shoulder & Upper Limb Surgeon

Dr Iossifidis was educated at the University of Montpellier in France. His postgraduate surgical training took place in Norwich and Cambridge. He then joined the Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospital higher surgical training rotation. As a Senior registrar he developed an interest in shoulder surgery and completed a Shoulder fellowship in London and New York.
